See the title of this post? That's me TRYING to be positive about the nasty weather we've been experiencing since Christmas. While it's been pretty difficult and I've been cranky, listless, COLD, etc., I did find a positive on Friday morning.
While driving Maren's carpool that morning, I first noticed the "frosty" trees (immediately remembering from novels set in the Scottish Highlands that it's called hoar), and then realized that we could see individual snowflakes sticking to the windows. Beautiful crystal snowflakes, looking just like what you think snowflakes should look like. (I guess the weather conditions have to be just right to see them like that here.)
When I got home, I grabbed a black piece of paper and went outside to take some pictures. The black paper made a great background to see the snowflakes until I couldn't figure out how to turn off the flash with the macro feature on... I got pretty cold, pretty fast, it was 12 degrees F after all (and I still had to get ready for work), so the pictures turned out less than desirable :( But here are a couple that I hope will at least give some idea of what I saw yesterday.

Those are gorgeous! Reminds me of a story Chieko Okasaki told about doing that with her students - especially since she was from Hawaii. :-) ...Jill
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love when snow shows its individuality instead of just being.
